About the Timber Transport Forum
What is the Timber Transport Forum?The Timber Transport Forum was established in February 2000 to provide a mechanism for sharing ideas and best practice across the existing Regional Timber Transport Groups and the wider forest industry. The Forum is made up of representatives of the Regional Timber Transport Groups, local and central government (Forestry Commission and Scottish Executive Transport Department) and economic development agencies, the Forestry Contracting Association , Forest Industries Development Council , Forestry & Timber Association and the United Kingdom Forest Products Association .
The Forum's work is managed by the Forest Industries Development Council and receives financial support from Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Forestry Commission England, Forestry Commission Scotland and Forestry Commission Wales.
What does the Timber Transport Forum do?
The main objective of the Forum is to share information on topics of common concern and agree collaborative action. This will be achieved through:
- Facilitating communication between the Regional Timber Transport Groups
- Disseminating information about the work of Regional Timber Transport Groups and other timber transport initiatives
- Identifying international best practice and promoting innovative thinking
- Establishing working groups to address specific issues
- Holding an annual meeting to review progress and plan future actions
Who is running the Timber Transport Forum?
A Steering Group guides the Forum's activities, which are co-ordinated by a Project Manager based at the Forest Industries Development Council. All enquiries relating to the Timber Transport Forum should be addressed to:
